Breville Barista Express, Pro & Touch Installation
1. Free your divider from its packaging prison and give it a proper spa treatment with dish soap and water. Keep it far away from the dishwasher—these components deserve the VIP hand-wash experience! Once sparkling clean, make sure everything is bone dry before moving forward.
2. Time to liberate the coffee bin from your Breville espresso machine! Just turn that center dial counterclockwise until you hear a satisfying "click" and it should come up and out. If you have any issues with this please refer to your machines manual.
3. Rescue any coffee beans still chilling in the bin by pouring them into a spare bowl. Don't worry—they'll be back in action soon!
4. Before we dive deeper, grab yourself a Phillips screwdriver. You're about to need it!
5. Flip the bin upside down like a pancake and spot the screw hiding at the bottom of the center hole. Use your screwdriver to evict it by turning counter-clockwise.
IMPORTANT: Do this on a flat surface! A couple of tiny pieces might make a break for it once that screw comes loose, and trust us—you don't want to be crawling around hunting for them later.
6. Once the screw is loose and free, pull upward and remove the black center piece. If the screw is still clinging to the center piece, gently remove it now and set it aside for its grand return in a later step.
7. Handle those two small pieces shown in the picture like precious gems—they're escape artists! Pick up the entire bin and remove the two original parts from the underside. These two pieces are retiring, so set them aside—they've earned their rest.
If the two small pieces make a dash for freedom, just slide them back into place as shown in the picture.
8. Keep viewing the bin from the bottom and take note of the right-hand side as shown in the picture. This orientation matters—it's like the compass for what comes next!
9. Grab the circular piece shown in the picture and nestle it into the bottom of the bin with the post and edges facing down and the smooth side facing up.
* Pay special attention to the straight edges—the ones that don't follow the circular flow. These straight-edges should slide into the notches of those two small pieces from Step 7.
* Make absolutely sure the post slides in between the small section on the right-hand side of the bin as pictured. Get this wrong, and your bin won't turn or lock properly when you reunite it with the espresso machine. No pressure!
10. With the circular piece all snuggled in, double-check that it's sitting flush and not playing peek-a-boo above the bottom rim of the bin.
11. Take the center piece shown in the picture and slide it down through the center hole in the bin.
* Again make sure it's also sitting flush and not resting on top of the outer circular piece.
13. Now viewing the bin from the top, play detective and locate the vertical wall that has a notch. Spin the bin so this notch is facing away from you, just like you see in the picture.
14. Install the bin dividing wall by sliding it over the center post, making sure the logo side of the divider is closest to you.
16. Pop the top dial onto the center post and push down. The dial is keyed like a puzzle piece and will only fit one way—no forcing allowed!
17. Grab that screw you set aside in Step 6 and install it in the center of the dial like you're crowning royalty.
* Easy does it—don't go full Hulk and overtighten that screw!
17. Once the screw is snug, give the dial a little push-pull workout. The dial should stay put with zero up-and-down movement. If it's doing the cha-cha, tighten the screw a smidge more and test again.
18. Give the dial a spin both clockwise and counter-clockwise. It should twirl with no resistance. If it's being stubborn, loosen the screw just a hair and try again.
20. Check out the top of the divider—you'll spot an "Unlock" symbol chilling on the left-hand side and a "Lock" symbol standing guard on the right. Here's the deal: the dial can wander past the "Unlock" symbol no problem, but it will NOT budge past the "Lock" symbol on the right—forcing it will break the locking system, and nobody wants that heartbreak.
To get your divider ready for its grand reunion with the Breville espresso machine, turn the dial counter-clockwise past the "Unlock" symbol until it refuses to go any further.
21. Power down and unplug your Breville espresso machine—safety first! Give the top of the machine a quick inspection and evict any rogue coffee beans or debris from the grinder that might sabotage the bin's perfect seating.
22. Place the bin into the machine and turn the dial clockwise. If you hit resistance before the arrow lines up with the "dot" next to the "Lock" symbol, pull the bin back out and revisit the previous step.
23. Once the dial turns clockwise and the arrow aligns with the "dot" next to the "Lock" symbol, you'll feel a natural stopping point. Give the dial one more firm clockwise turn and listen for that sweet "click." Important heads-up: The arrow will NEVER point directly at the "Lock" symbol itself, so don't try to turn it that far—you'll break the locking system and nobody wants to be that person.
Once you hear that victorious "click," your bin is locked, loaded, and ready to rock! Plug your machine back in and prepare for coffee greatness.
24. Future you might need this: if you ever need to remove the bin down the road, turn the dial counter-clockwise until it lines up with the "dot" next to the "Unlock" symbol. Give it a firm counter-clockwise turn until you hear a "click," then keep turning until the dial cruises past the "Unlock" symbol and comes to a stop. The bin is now ready to pull up an out.
